Dr. San Giovanni did surgery on my right foot and ankle. As a result of a non-fusion of the bone, I was much worse off than when I went in for surgery. Apparently, there is a high percentage of non-fusion with bunion surgeries, but I don't recall being told just how high the percentage is.
There is a machine one can use post-surgery to promote fusion, but this wasn't mentioned. I had to have a second surgery with another surgeon and this time my bones fused after using the machine. With regards to my ankle surgery, I've been told that my right ankle is still very unstable. I had two surgeries over a year and a half and was in a boot for the vast majority of that time. I went through extensive physical therapy after each surgery and adhered to instructions. Other surgeons have told me that the surgery was a failure and pain and the bunion have returned. I went to five surgeons to get opinions prior to Dr. San Giovanni. Perhaps, one of the other surgeons would have been better choices.
Very hopeful that Dr San Giovanni can help me. But..... EXTREMELY bad follow-up. Actually my original appt. was 8/10/16. Today is 8/22/16 with no follow-up and I've called 8 times!! I'm in pain and NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. Extremely disappointed. I'm considering starting over with my doctor search but who to go to??
Horrible follow up. It's been 3 months and nothing has been done from them to help me yet they keep sending me bills how to they expect to get paid for doing nothing.
I have had 5 surgeries on my ankle after breaking it. I wish Dr. San Giovanni operated the first time. If he did, I never would have had to have 5 operations. I was lucky enough to be referred to him and had the best experience all around. Great staff and fantastic surgeon. Pretty extensive surgery and Dr. San Giovanni explained everything. Did not speak above me. If you need to see a specialist in ankles, run, don't walk to Dr. San Giovanni.
The doctor is fantastic but the staff no very friendly they always make you feel they are so busy for your questions ! And you are a pain in their butts .
I just got my second surgery and I am doing great !
