Not a very welcoming music school. Not a very friendly vibe at all. I would strongly recommend not going to U.M. for music. I went for 4 years and was never really accepted socially. And I am pretty normal. I talked to many different students and alumni and they basically said the same thing. One person said it took three years to make friends.
The administration never hosts any social events for the music school. Literally nothing. You finish classes after a hard semester and then you just go home. It's not fun. You can join a fraternity or try and find a clique, but you are on your own to do so. And it's not easy!
The faculty members are arrogant and stand-off-ish. They are not good mentors. The classical trombone teacher is an exception. He is great. But that is not enough to make up for the bad vibes you get from the rest of the faculty.

All I can say is look for a better school with a more supportive environment. The Frost School of Music is not good for your health and well being.
As school I liked it quite a lot (wouldn't put it on the top of my list) but you should totally check it if u are into good music cause the staff there is great for us to learn.
